Computer animation, special effects and digital design is a growing field. However, it is also a field that has become as competitive in recent years as it is popular. In practical reality, colleges of all types are turning out far more graduates than there are gainfully employed positions. In too many cases, the educational "gold rush" has lead many to offer programs that they are not qualified to teach.  This shift in industry saturation results in an extremely competitive field where only those who have talent, top flight training and an unflagging work ethic can really expect to succeed. It is not a field anyone should enter simply because it looks like fun, it's cool or it's popular.

For younger kids with potential, either technically or artistically, there is a lot that can be done to start appropriate refinement of skill sets before choosing a good college becomes an issue.
